Keeping it Real

Following the post about cute and healthy Japanese food I thought you should also be aware that It isn't always like the pictures. Today someone came to school with a sandwich from a convenience store.

Interacting with the student about the lunch I learned the sandwich was a . . .

"Sugar and Margarine" sandwich.

It was joined by a "Cafe Au lait" drink.

How old is this kid eating sugar and caffiene for lunch?! Sounds like some of my favorite lunches, but NOT for a kid!!

Crazy isn't it! I teach 6, 7, and 8 year olds.

At least the sugar and caffiene kept the kid awake for the rest of the day ... oh, wait - that's supposed to be the teacher's job! I'm smiling at yet another story of what's not OK to our western minds. They are everywhere, arent' they?!

Laurie! Hi! I just wanted to say hello and that I was thinking about you. I've had my blog closed since last spring so I could better focus on helping the family adjust to our move, (and thus, haven't spent much time looking at others' sites) so I need to catch up on what you've been blogging lately! Hope the school year is going well!
Blessings to you!

@Ellie and Shirley - I've heard a few stories from others who have kids in the Japanese schools - they said the schools offered strawberry or coffee flavor drink mix to the elementary kids. - Different!

@S & Company, Welcome back to the blogosphere! Hope the move went well and the adjustment is going smoothly. Our school year is off to a good start. Thank you!
